Can You Still Profit From Selling E-books on eBay?
E-books are a fantastic way to disseminate information. They are digital documents that are often created as Adobe PDF files and are capable of containing links as well as graphics and text. They can be easily sent via email or can exist on a web server for people to download. People often list for sale e-books on eBay and other sites all over the internet. But lately there has been a flood of sellers and many of them are trying to sell the same information. Especially in the field of internet marketing, much of the information that is produced today is a rehash of the same ideas just written by a different author.
In the early days, it was quite easy to take a subject you knew something about and write it as an e-book. Then you would list it on eBay and sell it for a hefty sum since there was nothing available on the web. These days however, it's going to take much more creativity in order to command any kind of price that makes it worthwhile selling. It's quite easy to find digital products to sell. The difficult part is getting people to buy them.
So does all this mean that digital products are a think of the past? Not by a long shot. It is going to be necessary to be unique however. The market probably doesn't need another internet marketing e-book that describes how to use Google to make money. Remember, when everyone ends up selling the same thing the price comes close to zero (if it is not given away outright). The downside to this type of business is that there are no barriers to entry. Anyone, anywhere, and at anytime can sell e-books on eBay.
So how do you get around this saturation and actually make money? One idea that many incorporate is to be the lowest priced seller. But over time, someone else will eventually undermine your efforts with an even lower price. This is why the market for digital products like internet marketing, continue to have price reductions on or close to zero dollars.
The best way to handle this situation is to produce your own product. Make sure it is one that nobody (or very few) has covered and offers something that others will find valuable. Again, online marketing is probably saturated unless you have techniques that have never been used before and they are effective. You can research eBay to find what items are selling (they have a Hot Item list). This can give you ideas of things to produce a report about. For instance, if you see that certain types of antiques are selling well on eBay, you could produce a guide that gives readers more information about the items that sold or the time period that the piece is from.
In short, there are still plenty of ideas that will sell well and have little competition when selling digital products. So to answer the question, can you still profit from selling e-books on eBay? I believe the answer is a resounding yes.
